Former New England Communications customers
New England Communications closed. Here's how to keep your phones working.
New England Communications of Portland stopped operating in June 2026. If they installed or supported your Avaya or RingCentral phone system, we can take over support, secure your phone numbers and make sure your customers can still reach you.
We can help with
- Avaya IP Office support, changes and repairs
- RingCentral account and admin access
- Protecting and porting your phone numbers
- Recovering system settings and passwords
- Phones that stopped working after the closure
- Upgrading or replacing an aging system
What happened
Many customers found out when they called for support.
Several former New England Communications customers have called us after dialing the company's support line and reaching a message that the business had closed. Their phone systems may still be running, but nobody is maintaining them, and some businesses don't know who holds the administrator passwords, the licenses or the accounts their phone numbers depend on.
That's fixable, and the sooner it's sorted out, the less likely a surprise outage or a lost phone number becomes. Here's what to check, depending on the system you have.
If your phones aren't working right now
Call us first.
If calls aren't coming in or going out, call 207-471-8510. We'll work out whether the problem is the phone system itself, your internet connection, or the carrier lines your numbers run on, and get calls flowing again. As a stopgap, most carriers and cloud systems can forward your main number to a cell phone while it's fixed.
You don't need to sign up for a plan to get help. We'll fix the immediate problem and then talk about what makes sense long term.
If you have RingCentral
Make sure you control your RingCentral account.
RingCentral runs in the cloud, so your service doesn't depend on New England Communications' office still being open. The risk is in who controls the account. When a phone company resells or manages RingCentral, it may hold the administrator login or handle the billing.
Check three things now: that someone at your business has a working administrator login, whether your bill comes from RingCentral directly or came through New England Communications, and that the account is in your business's name. If any of those are unclear, we can work with RingCentral to confirm ownership and get administrator access back in your hands.
Once that's settled, we can take over the day-to-day work: adding and removing users, changing call routing, replacing phones and setting up the Microsoft Teams integration if you want it.
If you have an Avaya IP Office system
Your Avaya system keeps running, but someone needs the keys.
Avaya IP Office systems run on equipment in your building, so they usually keep working after an installer closes. The problems show up later: a phone needs replacing, an employee leaves, call routing needs to change for the holidays, or the system fails and nobody has a backup of its configuration.
We can locate the system, recover or reset administrator access, back up the configuration, and document your licenses, extensions and call flows. Then we can support it going forward like any other part of your IT.
We'll also check which release your system runs. Avaya gives full support only to recent IP Office releases, so older systems may be due for an upgrade. If your system is near the end of its life, we'll price out keeping it against moving to RingCentral or a budget-friendly Grandstream or Sangoma system, with no pressure either way.
Protect your phone numbers
Your phone numbers matter more than the phones.
Your main number is printed on your trucks, website, cards and Google listing. If the phone lines or SIP service behind it were billed through New England Communications, that service could be cut off when the bills stop being paid, and a number that's disconnected can be hard or impossible to recover.
Look at your recent bills to see who actually provides your phone lines. If it's anyone other than your business directly, call us. We can help move (port) the numbers into an account you own before anything lapses.

FAQ
Common questions
Did New England Communications close?
Yes. New England Communications of Portland, Maine stopped operating in June 2026. Former customers calling its support line have reached a message saying the business is closed.
Who supports my New England Communications phone system now?
We do. Pine State Systems supports the Avaya IP Office and RingCentral systems New England Communications installed. Call 207-471-8510 and we'll start with whatever is most urgent.
Will my Avaya phone system stop working?
Not because of the closure itself. An Avaya IP Office system runs on equipment in your building and keeps working, as long as the phone lines or SIP service it uses stay active. What you lose is someone to support it, so it's worth securing administrator access and a configuration backup now.
Will my RingCentral service be shut off?
RingCentral service runs in the cloud and isn't tied to New England Communications' office. The important thing is to confirm your business has administrator access and that billing is set up in your name, so the account doesn't lapse. We can help you sort that out with RingCentral.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
In almost all cases, yes. Numbers can be moved (ported) to an account your business owns. Act before any underlying service is cancelled, because a disconnected number can be hard to get back.
Do I have to sign a contract to get help?
No. We'll fix the immediate problem first. If you want ongoing support, we'll explain the options after that.
